The Mara Files

How many books will there be in The Mara Files?
8. The first book is yet to be released, and there will be more in the future…

Where do you get your character names?
A lot of places. Most of my research is done on baby name sites. I’m convinced the traffic to those sites is half expectant parents and half writers! Sometimes I overhear names in conversation and write them down for future reference.

Hardly ever are my characters named after people I’ve met.

Upcoming Releases

When does the next book come out?
I’m hoping sometime in 2021 to release Mara’s Awakening, book #1 of The Mara Files. You can find out more about that here.

Can I email you?
I don’t give out my email for personal reasons, however, if you want to reach me, you can do that through the contact form here. I look forward to hearing from you! But please don’t expect a reply immediately, I try my best.

Do you have social media?
Yes! I share progress updates, sneak peeks, musings and more on my Social Media. Follow me on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Can you recommend any books?
This list is by no means exhaustive, but here a few good ones.

Science Fiction

  • The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

Young Adult & Kids Series

  • Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
  • Magnus Chase Series by Rick Riordan
  • The Ever After Series
  • Harry Potter by JK Rowling

If you could travel to a fictional world, where would you go & what would you do there?

I’d love to visit J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle Earth or the world of The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I’d explore all the amazing nature and places in Middle Earth, and in the world of the Lunar Chronicles I’d discover all the cool technology and visit Lunar.

Where did you get your inspiration?
Many different places, things I hear, media I see, conversations I have, music I listen to, my head making connections… Ideas are everywhere, you have to piece everything together.

Do you have any advice for writers?

To write anything, you need ideas, and sometimes, they can come from everyday life. Here are some suggestions for gathering ideas.

  • Carry a notebook and pen around dedicated to writing ideas. Or a pad of sticky notes, and add them to a journal later!
  • Keep a diary and write anything and everything you wish in there, not just a daily record of events.

Do you read fan fiction?
If you mean fan fiction based upon my books, no, for legal reasons and I don’t want to accidentally steal one of your ideas and put it into my story! However, I do love writing and reading all kinds of fan fiction, I’ve written a lot of Star Wars pieces.

You’re most welcome to write fanfiction from my stories, but please attribute the characters and original ideas to me, and share them for others to read for free. That equates to fair use. 🙂
